TODAY Show: Importance of Friendship in Middle Age
I am so lucky to have a friend like Louise! Louise and We had a great time filming the TODAY Show segment that aired this morning. As it turns out, a friendship like we share is scientifically good for our long-term mental health!
Louise and I participated in an experiment with neuroscientist, James Coan at the University of Virginia. Louise was put into a MRI machine where she would see cues about receiving an electric shock. The experiment measured the anticipated anxiety before receiving an shock. Watch the video to see the difference in Louise's anxiety when she was alone, holding the hand of a stranger, and holding my hand.
