Chemo Round 2
Today I start my second round of chemotherapy. Once every 2 weeks I'll receive Adriamycin and Cytoxan - this is the "A" & "C" portion of the "ACT" chemo regimen for my Triple Negative Breast Cancer. As of now, they expect that I'll have 4 treatments.
Chemo Round 2
As many of you may know, I went through my first round of treatment in Maine where my husband owns summer camps for children. During that time, I was given a drug called Taxol, the "T" portion of the treatment regimen. While side effects of chemo are, of course, common and expected, this particular round might be even more difficult. Now that we're all back at home, I'm happy that my treatment center is just a couple of minutes away.
These days there are also many anti-nausea meds that can really help to combat the side effects of chemo. And, for me, other things like staying hydrated and eating clean have really proved to be crucial in helping to aid my digestion, nausea and fatigue.
I'm also very thankful that I already have my port. Since this particular chemo is more toxic than before, having to go into the veins in your arms can cause many problems. Therefore, it's highly recommended to get a port implanted to help make the treatments go smoother and to reduce that risk of vein damage. It was a very quick outpatient procedure and has made a world of difference for me.
Hearing from family, friends and so many of you has made me feel so much stronger - attitude really is everything on this journey. And just like my new "pin" says that I received this morning, "No body fights alone!"
