My Day On Capitol Hill
My Day On Capitol Hill
We met first with Senator, Chris Murphy (D-CT) who represents a state that’s been a champion in many bills relating specifically to breast density reporting laws, Connecticut, my home state. After a few meetings with Senators in the Hart Building, the side of The Capitol which holds Senators’ offices, we made our way to the House side to meet with various state representatives.
The formality of these meetings could be intimidating however when you go in with a purpose for which to fight, the experience is so rewarding. Almost 200 advocates from Susan G. Komen also met with their local and state congressmen and women, sharing personal stories to help put faces on a number of federal bills pending on the floor of Congress. It was invigorating to see the halls, which are lined with state flags and offices, peppered with PINK to represent the cause for which were all in attendance, Breast Cancer.

(An insiders note? Wear comfortable shoes!)
I look forward to being involved with more advocacy initiatives moving forward!
